What is the Wilke program?

The Margo Katherine Wilke Undergraduate Research Internship (Wilke) program is designed to involve Purdue College of Liberal Arts undergraduates in the interdisciplinary and exciting research environment of the College of Liberal Arts. The program provides opportunities for students to work with faculty in the College of Liberal Arts on cutting edge research projects in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Working closely with faculty, students experience the excitement, challenge, and power of research that is positioned to catalyze social impact across the globe. Wilke offers 50 part-time (6-10 hours/week) student internship slots per academic semester.

Wilke Program Highlights

  • Earn 1 credit for the internship core seminar series, SCLA 491
  • Potentially earn research credits through a project's sponsoring department
  • Receive a $500 scholarship per semester in Wilke
  • Take part in year-end Undergraduate Research Forum and Poster Session
  • Participants are required to register for a 1.0 credit hour SCLA 491 course, which will be given on selected Wednesdays, from 5:00-5:50pm

Wilke Program Requirements

  • Open only to sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the College of Liberal Arts
  • Participants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must maintain good academic standing
  • Participants are required to register for a 1.0 credit hour SCLA 491 course, which will be given on selected Wednesdays, from 5:00-5:50pm

Wilke Program

The Margo Katherine Wilke Undergraduate Research Internship (Wilke) program was made possible by a generous bequest from the Margo Katherine Wilke Trust and receive additional support from the Office of the President. The program is intended to nurture a lifelong interest in learning and appreciation of the humanities and other liberal arts disciplines which were important to Margo Katherine Wilke Melichar. In addition, it seeks to stimulate awareness of advanced research and promote interest in graduate education. Wilke offers opportunities for 50 student internships per academic semester (fall and spring). Participating students receive a $500/semester scholarship in recognition of their selection. The Wilke program is open to Purdue University-West Lafayette sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Liberal Arts who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and are in good academic standing. In addition, the participating faculty member will receive $500/semester to defray research costs. Projects may be submitted for the period of 1 semester or over 2 semesters.
