Spring 2014 - DURI
Research area(s):
computer science, programming, communication, android, ios, gps, app programming, development, google glass, sdk
Project Description:
The project conducts research on social orientation and interaction through mobile devices. The research goal is to find out if mobile applications can help learning from mobile devices in the field or other non-conventional, informal learning environments. One of the goals of the project is to improve an existing iPhone app that makes information posted on a blog visible on an iPhone map. Adapting the tool to Google Glass is a secondary goal. The apps can be configured to connect to various popular blogging platforms, it extracts spatial information from them and then presents the data on a map. Learning experience will be developed and tested.
Expected Student Contributions:
The intern will work with a research team that studies learning through mobile devices and develops the necessary tools for enhancing this type of learning. The student will collect data, summarize existing findings from computer science disciplines and will contribute to the intellectual design and application development of the project. He or she should be able to program and administer iPhone, Android or Google Glass apps using a variety of development kits. Fluency needed only in one development environment. Fluency in multiple environments a plus. The student is expected to contribute to research ideas, papers, and actual software development ideas and code. The intern will work closely with the internship coordinator to turn the project into a specific set of deliverables.
