"YDAE Summer DURI Project 2010"

About the Project

Project Time & Type:
Summer 2010 - DURI
Research area(s):
Life Science Education Research
Project Description:
This project fits within the scope of the summer DURI project in engaging students in plant science learning and potential career exploration in plant science, food science and nutrition. Dr. Kathryn Orvis (YDAE & HORT) has been collecting data on a program with colleagues from the College of Consumer & Family Sciences. The program helps children try new fruits and vegetables by learning how to grow them in a school-based setting. The students get excited about the fruits and vegetables and their parents take interest in the new fruits and vegetables as well. Eat Your Way To Better Health has been a successful program in approximately 30 counties (and growing) in Indiana.
Expected Student Contributions:
The summer DURI intern would help conduct research (both descriptive data analysis and review of literature) to help prepare text for submitting grant proposals to scale up EYWTBH to help promote hands-on learning, nutrition education, and possibly career exploration.
