Project Description:
Research is being conducted to determine the technical and financial viability of a utility-scale solar photovoltaic system at Purdue. This is part of a Department of Energy funded project with an overall goal of encouraging solar energy installations.
Expected Student Contributions:
Site assessments are needed to identify suitable locations for a photovoltaic array. Roughly 2 acres are needed for every MW of power output. Other factors for site selection include access to electrical interconnects, power purchase agreements with an electric utility, and financial strategies to take advantage of the newly extended federal invest tax credit for renewables.
