Project Description:
GK-12 is an education and outreach program that engages graduate students and post docs in ten-week experiences with local school teachers and students. During this program the participant receives some training, observes teaching in a local school for several weeks, and then develops and implements an age-appropriate lesson that brings his or her research theme in to the classroom. The program has been running since 2007 at Purdue, and in 2014 we started a pilot program at Stockholm University in Sweden. The participants keep guided journals during the program, and our research addresses questions related to the impact that the program has, as indicated by the content of the journal entries. In 2015-16 we are particularly interested in our undergraduate research student in DURI exploring the similarities and differences between subsets of the students who have been in the program..
